“It’s time for our classrooms to become places for healing so that they can become places for learning." - Monique W. Morris
Student Self-Care Kits Program
The newest personalized learning tool for students in grades K – 5. This program is designed to empower students of diverse backgrounds and those who have experienced trauma, to manage their social and emotional learning needs through self-calming exercises and tools included in their personalized Student Self-Care Kit. Students appreciate a personalized tool-kit of their own readily available to use in class during moments of discomfort and/or overstimulation. Additionally, teachers and schools who partner with the program will engage in a phased rollout of coaching and feedback during the implementation of the program to ensure fluidity and functionality.
7 Reasons to Incorporate Student Self-Care Kits into your Classroom Management System:
- It’s Personalized — Each child has their own to build throughout the academic year and take home at the end!
- Encourages Autonomy – Students will elaborate on their own ideas and mindfulness methods they can practice, reinforce and add to their kits!
- Equality of Fairness — Each kit provides a student with an equality of tools to decompress before or after an in-depth lesson. No more ONLY accommodations to your students with 504’s, IEP’s, and BSP’s!
- It’s Safe – No more sharing generic and contaminated calm down center manipulatives with 20 + students throughout the instructional day that requires daily/weekly sanitation for reuse!
- Kits Promotes Student Belonging — Each child has a kit personalized to his/her needs and students can modify their kits by adding more tools for self-calming/overstimulation!
- Builds Personal Value — This powerful classroom tool reinforces that our children matter even the importance of their social/emotional learning needs!
- Prevents Behavior Occurrences and Referrals – Foster healthy decision-making in your learning space by providing your students with an option of purposeful breaks instead of elopement, aggression, and fighting/striking.
